Overview
The Donetsk Region is a large industrial area in eastern Ukraine, one of two oblasts that form the Donbas. It has been a primary battleground in the Ukraine War since 2014, with parts occupied by Russian-backed separatists and later formally annexed by Russia, a move widely condemned under international law.
