Pakistani PM hopes for swift solution to crisis over Qatar

Qatar denies allegations it supports terrorism and has vowed to not give up its independent foreign policy.

Turkey has approved bill allowing troops to be deployed in Qatar and approving an accord between the two countries on military officer training cooperation, and Qatar is in talks with Iran and Turkey to secure food and water supplies. The Turkish president has vowed to keep supporting Qatar and has said the dispute should be resolved before the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Amnesty's Secretary General Salil Shetty made the remarks while meeting with Ali Bin Smaikh Al Marri, the chairman of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, who had paid a visit to the rights body's headquarters in London, Arabic-language daily Alquds Alarabi reported on Tuesday.
Qatar has also negotiated new cargo handling arrangements in the Omani ports of Sohar and Salalah, avoiding the need for goods to stop in the UAE.
The tensions between Saudi Arabia and Qatar continue to escalate following the former and its allies severing ties with the Gulf state.
Still, Jubeir says Saudi Arabia is willing to provide food and medical supplies through the King Salman Center, a Saudi humanitarian agency.

Last Thursday, Guterres urged countries in the region "to avoid escalating tensions and work instead to overcome their differences", United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
Last week, Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced disapproval of the sanctions against Qatar.
The Saudi cabinet expressed satisfaction on Qatar-related decisions. Oman has stayed out of the conflict.
The head of state noted that a teleconference with participation of the French President and Emir of Qatar will be held today to solve the Qatari crisis.
The statement from Sharif's office quoted him as saying he hopes the "current impasse in the Gulf will be resolved soon" in the best interest of the Muslim community.
