Ashtanga is an ancient yoga practice taken from Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, an oldest Hindu scripture on yoga. Ashtanga is a Sanskrit word where Ashtanga means “eight limbs”. Ashtanga refers to the eight limbs of yoga mentioned in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. It was popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois, an Indian yoga teacher who brought it to the west through his foreigner student. It is promoted as modern day classical yoga practices.
