Wii U GamePad sold separately

Considering how integral the Wii U GamePad is to the the console's general operation and user experience, it's somewhat surprising how inconvenient it has been to get your hands on a new one.

The product only works with Japanese Wii U systems and will not be sold in regular shops.

The standalone price is now cheaper than the fee Nintendo charges to replace a broken GamePad - that cost is now $140 United States dollars, or $195 AUD.

The Wii U launched back in 2012, and each unit has come with a Wii U Gamepad. Even so, it looks like Nintendo of Japan just opened the gates. However, if Nintendo really has learned from the mistakes of the Wii U, and the NX won't require an expensive GamePad to be boxed-in with the console, players would have to buy a separate GamePad to play Wii U games. Kotaku reports that the controllers are available to buy directly from Nintendo today for ¥12,800 ($104), but only in Japan. We now have no idea if Gamepads will be made available for purchase in North America and Europe in the future but we will let you know more about the matter as soon as possible so stay tuned for all the latest news.
