Violence flares as John Kerry meets Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel

Palestinian parties condemned on Tuesday positions of the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on recent attacks against Israel ahead of his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah. "Even my regular clients, when I reach to return their change, they tremble", the greengrocer who has worked in the market for fourteen years said.

"There can be no peace when we have an onslaught of terror, not here, not anywhere else", Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said as he welcomed the chief American diplomat.

"It's not only our battle; it's everyone's battle", he said.

Before Tuesday, Kerry had visited Israel and the Palestinian territories only once since the latest peace process collapsed, in July 2014.

He said he wished to talk with Netanyahu about a joint bid "to push back against terrorism, to push back against senseless violence and to find a way forward, to restore calm and to begin to provide the opportunities that most reasonable people in every part of the world are seeking for themselves and for their families".

In addition to the local unrest, Kerry referred to the turmoil engulfing the wider region. "We have much to talk about", Kerry continued, adding the issue of ISIS will also be discussed during their meeting.

As the United Nations on Monday marked the annual Palestinian Solidarity day by passing a series of anti-Israel resolutions, Israel's envoy to the global body sought to highlight the country's struggles with Islamic terrorism.

Abbas affirmed Palestinians' clear and firm position, which supports an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and the need to release the pre-Oslo fourth batch of prisoners.

As Daniel Polisar wrote in Mosaic magazine about his study of Palestinian public opinion, their glorification of violence and opposition to peace on any terms but Israel's destruction is what continues to fuel the conflict. The man, who was later identified as Palestinian, was slightly wounded.

"The USA government has never defended or supported Israeli settlements and activity associated with them and by extension does not pursue policies that would legitimize them", he said.

The Palestinians were protesting statements Kerry made in Israel in which he described the Palestinian attacks against Israelis as terrorism. However, he has also repeated in recent months that it is not on the table at this point.

Palestinians blame the upswing in violence on the nearly 50-year Israeli occupation of the West Bank, a lack of progress toward a Palestinian state and a growing sense of despair and frustration amongst youth.

"In the last night of the negotiations that I was involved in, the Israeli negotiators came with an offer of tens of thousand of dunams [thousands of hectares] of Area C, that they were prepared to give over to the Palestinian Authority's control to build what they would want to on them, without the permit regime and so on", he said.

During his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US Secretary of State John Kerry says that Israel has both a right and an obligation to defend itself. It said the attacker was shot and wounded at the scene.

Netanyahu added there would be "no limits" on the powers of Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.

However, human rights groups have warned the bill will move civilian law more in line with harsh measures implemented in the West Bank by the military occupation.

At least 9,171 Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli troops or settlers between October 1 and November 10, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Danon said the worldwide community needs to "rip off the Palestinian mask of lies" and condemn "the lies and incitement" which fuel violence against Israelis.
