Justin Bieber vs One Direction In Album Sales: Who Won?

Justin Bieber, who's been re-converting non-beliebers worldwide thanks to his new number one album "Purpose", won "Collaboration of the Year" and closed the night with a bang at the 2015 American Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.

- With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 unit) added to the calculation, "Purpose" posted a first-week unit total of 649,000.

While Bieber happily wears the crown of Billboard victor this week, Adele is on the horizon to break numerous records of her own when the final sales tally for her latest album, "25", is revealed next week.

The eagerly anticipated sales showdown between Justin Bieber's "Purpose" and One Direction's "Made In The AM" fell convincingly in favor of the former.

On the Digital Songs chart, which measures online download sales, Adele's heartbreak ballad "Hello" held onto the top spot with another 327,000 copies sold this week.

Taylor Swift and One Direction were the big winners on the night. While that would usually be good enough for a No. 1 debut, it came in at No. 2, behind Bieber. One Direction, on the other hand, released "Made in the A.M." as the last album before the band goes on a hiatus next year.

Rapper Logic debuts at #3 with The Incredible True Story, which is his highest chart position ever.

Last week's chart-topper, "Traveller" by country artist Chris Stapleton, dropped to No. 6 this week.

Though Bieber did incredibly well on the charts this week, his objective trio is no match for the power of Adele's "Hello," which spends a fourth week at No. 1.
