Cowboys Lead TCU After One Quarter

Jalen Reagor #18 of the TCU Horned Frogs runs the ball against the Southern Methodist Mustangs in the first half at Amon G. Carter Stadium on September 16, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas. And yes, this list does involve three ranked teams losing.

Here's what we learned from the Horned Frogs' impressive road win on Saturday. Down 14-7, the Sooners ramped up the intensity and put away the Green Wave in the second half. And at Texas, the kingdom seems slightly recovered, rather than the cataclysm it was assumed to be, after the gripping 27-24 double-overtime loss at Southern California, during which Sam Darnold's 35-second, 52-yard drive to the Trojans' game-tying field goal was so breathtaking as to remind us why we bother.

The rushing attack, led by sophomore running back Darius Anderson's 262 yards and three touchdowns, has allowed the TCU offense to lead the NCAA in third-down conversion percentage (66%). Six minutes later, Chubb raced in from seven yards out for his own touchdown and the Bulldog Bowl was all but over. Turpin is the leading receiver with 12 grabs for 118 yards and 1 TD. That being said, TCU has dropped its last four games in Stillwater, including a 49-29 defeat in 2015. The Frogs also boast the 19th best offense with 507.3 yards per game.

TCU is in this position because the team is solid at virtually every position, and because of a head coach who simply does better when he is convinced, and can convince his players, that no one thinks they are good enough.

After forcing an OSU punt, the TCU offense was forced to punt.

"They feed off of it", Patterson said.

A repeat of an opportunistic and turnover hungry defense highlighted by a Ranthony Texada interception and a Travin Howard pick-6, though, could be the rabbit's foot Patterson needs to make waves in Stillwater. Howard and Wilson lead the defense with 18 tackles apiece for the season.

OSU's defense still has plenty left to prove. TCU has allowed 14.3 points (21st) and 265 yards (15th) per game this year.

Vikings' Sam Bradford Officially Ruled Out For Week 3
It appears Case Keenum will take the reigns against in Week 3, which is obviously a downgrade for all of Minnesota's receivers. Bradford threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the first game and he is going to miss this week's game as well.

Series history: Oklahoma State leads 15-10-2. That will be a tough task against an MSU D that ranks sixth nationally in completion percentage (43.3).

Crabtree injured his toe in OSU's 59-21 win over Pittsburgh last week.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph found Washington for an 86 yards bomb. A presumed rematch in the Big 12 title game could serve as a virtual CFP play-in game for one or even both. Don't get me wrong: the Wolverines belong in the top 10. "I like where he's at".

The fresh idea of Oklahoma State as a dazzling blockbuster capable of upending the natural order of college football went into the alleged autumn of 90-degree temperatures on Saturday and then spent the hours fizzling. James Wahsington and Marcell Ateman each have a baker's dozen grabs. And in all, Washington had 153 yards while Rudolph tossed for 398. It also held Colorado State - which scored 23 against Alabama last weekend - to three points. In the opener against Tulsa, Kenneth Edison-MaGruder returned a fumble 82 yards for a score. As a matter of fact, the Cowboys are 4th in the country, scoring an outrageous 54 points per contest.

"They're unselfish, that's really the biggest characteristic that helps you because they understand work ethic, they care for one another, they like to see each other succeed", OSU offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. Kentucky will miss their defensive leader Jordan Jones to injury, so the Wildcats will need someone to step up and fill some big shoes.

Leading the way for the Horned Frogs was senior quarterback Kenny Hill. The Pokes can not afford to let him loose all afternoon.

Another reason that Mason Rudolph is so effective is that he has a running game to keep opposing defenses honest.
