Cleveland Indians win 20th straight game, tying American League record

For the first time since the 2016 World Series, the Cleveland Indians find themselves on an historic collision course with the Cubs.

The 20-game streak is tied for the American League's longest ever, matching Oakland (2002) for the longest in MLB's expansion era (since 1961).

"They should enjoy what they're doing".

When the Indians won their 19th straight win on Monday against the Detroit Tigers, the Cavaliers star forward gave them a special shoutout on his Twitter account.

Same year, different team. But now here come Tito and the Indians. "We just play the game".

It's hard enough for opposing hitters to get on base against the Indians. They're three core players, yet the Indians have found a way. On the play, Castellanos was camped under the ball calling for the play.

Mike Clevinger (10-5) gave up one earned run in 5 2/3 innings to get the win. It was Lindor's 30th home run of the season, and he became the second-youngest shortstop to hit 30 home runs, behind only Alex Rodriguez. The Indians gained nine additional games over the Twins in just under three weeks.

The Indians (89-56) now have a stranglehold on first place in the AL Central and are the talk of the majors. However, for the last 21 games, and throughout the course of the season, the team has found new and inventive ways to win.

As a Cleveland fan, this win streak (and to be honest, this team) feels like a dream. Taijuan Walker (9-7, 3.33) has won three straight starts, including when he struck out 10 in five scoreless innings against the Rockies on September 1.

The 26-game winning string by the 1916 New York Giants includes a tie.

The Tigers haven't had much success against Cleveland lately.

Jay Bruce and Roberto Perez both hit home runs during the game, and 41 homers overall through their win streak. With a man on first and one out, Indians reliever Bryan Shaw got John Hicks to ground a ball back to the mound. Francisco Lindor also went 2 for 4 and extended his hitting streak to seven games. Sports tweeted his agreement with Fox Sports, posting that "Unbeaten ≠ winning streak". League-average OPS in 2017 is hovering around.753.

The St. Louis Maroons started the season on a 20-game winning streak in 1884 in the lone season the Union Association existed before it shuttered operations.

In comparing those streaks, Tribe hurlers compiled a: 1.60 ERA en route to 20 straight.

Presley is one of the Tigers' hottest hitters.

Starting pitcher Corey Kluber was dominant.

Cleveland hasn't lost since August 23 and has outscored its opponents 121-32 in the streak.

Juan Minaya (3-2) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

Kluber added eight strikeouts over nine innings without a walk and five hits.
