After Parole Hearing, OJ Simpson Could Soon Be Released From Prison

Observers think "The Juice" has a reasonable chance for parole, as the same board already OKd parole four years ago on five of the charges against Simpson.

Laurie Levenson, a Loyola Law School professor and longtime Simpson case analyst, predicted a "tsunami" of public attention if Simpson wins release. Anyone else fitting Simpson's inmate profile would be virtually assured of parole, she said.

"The fact that he is a celebrity will have very little bearing (on the hearing), if any", Wolfson said.

If he is granted parole at the hearing - which will be televised live - he will walk free from prison on 1 October.

The 70-year-old former football star and actor is to appear before a parole board in the western state of Nevada on Thursday which will decide his fate.

"The first time I met O.J. was in the gym", said Jeffrey Felix, who was Simpson's first guard at the Lovelock Correctional Center.

Simpson's parole hearing is set for Thursday, July 20 and will be televised.

Simpson was sentenced to between 9 and 33 years in prison back in 2008 for his involvement in a robbery at a Las Vegas hotel.

On the night on September 13, 2007, the Heisman victor led a group of men who broke into a room at the Palace Station hotel in Vegas, where the memorabilia dealer - Bruce Fromong - had various pieces of sports memorabilia stolen from him at gunpoint.

For those tardy to the party or not even born yet, Simpson was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. It remains largely unpaid.

Simpson did benefit from media buzz surrounding his 1994 murder trial, with many people supporting his plea of innocence.

LNN's all day coverage hosted by Dan Abrams, Aaron Keller, Rachel Stockman and Amy Dash will include interviews with key players from the robbery trial including OJ's attorneys Yale Galanter, and Gabriel Grasso as well as former Court TV reporter Beth Karas who covered the case in its entirety.

Why is Simpson in prison?

Earlier this year, Kim Goldman joined her father in an interview on Good Morning America, where she said of Simpson, "He did a frightful, heinous crime and I have no feeling [for him] except rot in hell". "And the bad news is I'm good for another 10 years. ready to pick up where we last left off".
