Apple pushes Siri to the fore at annual developer conference

Users can simple scroll through them and use directly.

At its annual conference for developers on Monday, Apple unveiled new augmented reality (AR) software that can display virtual objects onto the real world. That's especially important because people are starting to access information, entertainment and search in a more "pervasive" way that's less dependent on smartphones, he said. A smart speaker utilizing an underachieving voice assistant could dampen interest in the product.

Apple also introduced a person-to-person payment feature to Apple Pay.

Cook noted that Apple has 16 million registered developers, up 3 million in 2016 alone, and has paid out $70 billion to developers since the store opened in 2008.

The new iOS will now synchronize messages across iOS and macOS automatically. Advanced sensors in Apple Pencil measure both pressure and tilt for natural drawing, annotating and note-taking. Users can authenticate transactions on Apple Pay securely with Touch ID.

During its marathon 2½-hour keynote speech, Apple repeatedly touted its AI and machine learning capabilities across all three new operating system updates.

Apple expected to reveal Amazon and Google smart speaker rival
Users will also be available to control smart home products such as connected lighting by speaking to Siri through the HomePod . It's part of Apple's effort to entice professionals with tablets that can handle many tasks previously reserved for laptops.

Apple was expected to announce a smart speaker, a market that Amazon - with its sleeper hit, the Echo - and the later Google Home, powered by Assistant - now dominate, given them an integral place in users' lives. It is used in 21 languages in 36 countries. Siri will now have a male voice and translation function, and Siri Intelligence will use machine learning to better predict what you need next. That company offers a similar wireless multi-speaker system for listening to music throughout the home, similar to HomePod's ability to chain together multiple speakers. It will support, Chinese, French, German, and others at first, with more to come later.

The new iMac Pro is a matte gray 27-inch computer that Apple says is the most powerful Mac it's ever made. The cameras are the same as those found on the iPhone 7, although the new iPads also have a 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera. All old iPhone and iPad models running on the old 32-bit CPUs can not update to iOS 11 at all. It features the same advanced front- and back-facing cameras as iPhone 7, including a 12-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, along with a 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera. iPad Pro also features a four-speaker audio system, providing powerful, clear and rich stereo sound in any orientation.

So what does this mean for anyone interested in developing an augmented reality experience? The photos shall now be stores in High Efficiency File Format (HEIF) which means the photos shall take up less space in your phone but without compromising quality.

In iOS 10, Apple introduced iMessage apps, but the experience of discovering and using them felt a little cluttered. It can even identify pets, sporting event photos, wedding, anniversary, and baby photos. Control Center packs such tools now in a single view, which you can get to with an upward swipe gesture. For example, there are different sliders for volume up and down, and more. Swiping down lock screen will show notification screen.

When you find an app, you'll notice that in-app purchases are now available on the same page.

Speaking of traveling, Maps will now feature indoor maps for malls and airports.
