Created to work with an Apple Music® subscription for access to over 40 million songs, HomePod provides deep knowledge of personal music preferences and tastes and helps users discover new music.

Given Apple's recent expansion into HomeKit and the success of competing models including the Amazon Echo and Google Home, it makes ideal sense for Apple to release the Siri Speaker into the market. While the device won't be available until later this year, I was able to get an extra glimpse (but not touch) of the new HomePod after Apple's WWDC keynote wrapped up.

Today, Apple also announced new machine learning tools for developers, including CoreML, a set of APIs that give developers on-device machine learning capabilities.

Chief executive Tim Cook, referencing the company's iTunes service and iPod, said: "Just like portable music, we would like to reinvent home music".

Coming in both space gray and black, the HomePod will work alongside iPhone 5s or its more recent models with the iOS11. He also singled out its ability to figure out the acoustics of the room it's in, and optimize the sound accordingly.

Or if someone texts you about owing money, it will ask if you want to pay using Apple Pay.
