Hulu's Streaming Live TV Service Launches in Beta

A year after announcing its live TV plans, the video-streaming service has launched a live TV beta. For $35 a month, subscribers get access to live shows from almost 40 networks and a DVR service with unlimited space. Subscribers get a 50-hour cloud DVR, up to 6 profiles, and the ability to stream two streams at once. It also includes Hulu's subscription video service, which gives you access to old TV shows and movies, as well as Hulu originals like "The Handmaid's Tale". Viewers who wish to watch their Hulu Originals, movies, and library content without advertising can subscribe to the company's on-demand No Commercials plan for an additional $4.00 per month. Which means that it's the first time the TV guys are selling a pay TV service directly to TV viewers. Although available to all, the feature is now in beta version, suggesting that noticeable overhauls will be coming across in the near future.

In addition, Hulu's Unlimited Screens option (also $14.99 monthly) provides as many simultaneous streams as users' broadband connections will sustain, and three concurrent streams outside the home.

The arrival of Hulu's live TV service, along with that of YouTube TV, could encourage more traditional pay-TV subscribers to cut the cord, says 7Park Data analyst Christopher Coby. For $20 per month, Hulu is offering the Enhanced Cloud DVR and Unlimited Screens together (for a $10 discount).

You might notice that channels owned by Viacom are not included at all. Other Scripps networks, including DIY and Cooking Channel, will eventually join the Hulu package. Need to see The Walking Dead or IFC's buzzy, new comedy Brockmire?Hulu won't have any of the AMC Networks (AMC, IFC, Sundance, BBC America), at least not at launch. The company confirmed on Wednesday that, as expected, Hulu with livestreaming will cost $40 per month, including the $8 consumers now pay for its ad-supported subscription service. Additionally, they have partnered with NBCUniversal, Scripps Networks Interactive, Turner Networks, A+E Networks, CBS Corporation, The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox, for streaming content on their service. You can stream live television on the Apple TV, Xbox One, iOS and Android Devices, and Chromecast. Support for Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and additional devices will be coming later.

Although the group seems to get off to a rough start, Daredevil's Stick (Scott Glenn) tells them that, "The war for NY is here". They join forces to protect NY from a threat that's bigger than corrupt city politicians and Kingpin crime bosses.

What is Hulu Live TV?

One nifty aspect for sports fans is that Hulu allows you to follow your favorite pro or college teams, and will surface those games for you instead of you having to figure out what channel they are on.

Beyond that, you will be able to get custom offerings and suggestions based off the items you watch. Since this is the public beta, there are bound to be changes made to Hulu with Live TV as users start trying it out and giving them feedback.
