After a body-pounding inning, Cardinals' Piscotty is fineBy Kelly Sanders Apr 20, 2017
During Tuesday evening's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs' outfielder Albert Almora, Jr. made a leaping catch in center field that will most likely be replayed repeatedly throughout the 2017 season. Then while scoring, Piscotty was hit on the helmet. After it was over, it's kind of amusing to look back on it since I'm OK.
Without taking the field Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals still took a win. The Cardinals might be the only team able to challenge Chicago in the division, boasting a starting rotation that includes Carlos Martinez, Michael Wacha, Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn. He held St. Louis hitless through three innings to open his first start of the year.
Lugo last pitched March 27, allowing four runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings during an exhibition game against Washington. Wainwright is looking to bounce back after going 13-9 with a 4.62 ERA last season.
St Louis Cardinals Major League Baseballer Stephen Piscotty was assisted off the diamond after being hit a remarkable three times by errant Chicago Cubs throws in the same inning. Yep, you guessed it, Piscotty was hit again. With two out, Piscotty tried to steal second and got hit again, this time on the left elbow.
Just a day after signing a 6-year, $33.5 million extension, Stephen Piscotty was earning his money the hard way.
Intially, Piscotty lay face down in the dirt as Mike Matheny and trainers raced out from the dugout. Jason Heyward knocked in a run in the fourth with a bloop single, and Javier Baez added the Cubs' other RBI by dropping a safety squeeze that scored Willson Contreras on the next pitch. Denard Span led off the game with a solo home runa nd then Jarrett Parker singled home Brandon Crawford, who had doubled off Arrieta.
Missouri Attorney General: Church lawsuit should proceed
While the religious and non-religious both pay into the program, apparently only the non-religious can receive any benefit. Becket attorney Hannah Smith says the state rejected the application because Trinity is a religious institution.
Getting Cubs at minus-135, even if they are the road team, brings good value because they will be heavy betting favorites for most of season.
Maddon made a couple of changes to his lineup as well, inserting Miguel Montero behind the plate and giving former Cardinal Jon Jay a start in center field. Almora hit.318 and drove in 16 runs in 23 games during spring training.
"I think it stunned me", Piscotty said.
Fowler also heard all cheers all night long, and he used his legs to get St. Louis on the board in the third.
And nobody would be surprised if the Cubs get the same kind of heightened focus and emotion out of everybody they play this year. "It works out a lot of the time".
