Tip-in by Ryan lifts Senators over Bruins 4-3 in overtime

Burrows should know. He was with Vancouver when the Bruins beat the Canucks to capture the 2011 Stanley Cup and saw firsthand how raucous Boston fans can get.

The teams split the first two games of their first-round series in Ottawa.

The Senators reclaimed home-ice advantage when Bobby Ryan deflected Turris's pass at 5:43 of overtime to give Ottawa its second straight extra-session win and series lead.

The assist was the second of the game for Karlsson while Ryan scored his second goal of the series, as the Senators captured their second straight OT victory. The Bruins now trail the series 2-1 with game 4 set for Wednesday night in Boston.

"I think it's the type of penalty - that stuff was kind of let go all game", said Bruins pest Brad Marchand, who was in the middle of much of the post-whistle stuff all night. "I'll be prepared for boos if that's what happens".

That is perhaps the most frustrating takeaway from the first two games - that a few collective minutes of mindless play could be the difference between going to Boston tied 1-1 and being up 2-0.

The Senators challenged the goal believing the play was offside, but a lengthy review upheld the goal. Steven Wright looked like he'd continue his recent struggles, yielding two runs in the first inning, but only one of the runs was earned and the knuckleballer settled down and ended up scattering nine hits over six innings and handing the ball over the a Red Sox bullpen that has been shockingly good in the early going this season, and got the job done again yesterday.

Ryan was the second player chosen overall in the 2005 entry draft, by the Anaheim Ducks, which is no slight when you recollect it was Sidney Crosby who was selected above him.

The Maple Leafs were hosting their first playoff game in nearly four years and coming off an exciting double-overtime win in Game 2.

This was exciting news for the Raptors because it meant the team could go back to winning games through defense - "the Casey way". But the electric Toronto backcourt slipped early in the playoffs last season, nearly costing them a First Round win.

Looking back, Ryan says the finger injury might have been a bonus in the big picture because it allowed him to work on his conditioning level, skating more than he would have otherwise. "I've played a long time and this is my first overtime victor and it feels great".

As such, the 'Hawks have put themselves in an unenviable position heading into Monday's game at Bridgestone. "I don't have an answer for that but it's a bad start and they took advantage of us being flat".

The Bruins went the final 9:47 of the first period without a shot and had one in the final 16:18.

Yet through two games of their first round playoff series against Nashville, the 'Hawks have failed to score a single goal.

The black and gold would go into the locker room down 2-0.

NOTES: After playing Game 1, C Tommy Wingels was out for Game 2 along with veterans C Chris Kelly and RW Chris Neil as well as D Fredrik Claesson.

"I'm not giving Nasher the satisfaction over that", Ryan shot back with a laugh. "I love working hard".

Game 4 is Wednesday night at TD Garden in Boston. There was some good stuff we did, but a loss is a loss. The potential is there, the opportunity has arisen through Boston's misfortune and they now need to seize.

Interim coach Bruce Cassidy called the goal and ensuing result "demoralizing and disappointing. there's probably a lot more words, but they called it".
