One in Six May Lose Health Insurance Under the GOP's Obamacare Replacement

A potentially lengthy U.S. legislative fight over replacement of the Obamacare health law gets underway on Wednesday as two House of Representatives committees begin negotiating over changes to a Republican plan backed by President Donald Trump. Trump wrote on Twitter.

The ACA expanded Medicaid, the social health care program for those with limited economic resources, in order to make sure a health issue wouldn't disrupt their lives.

"This is an historic step, an important step in the repeal of Obamacare", said Republican Representative Kevin Brady, chairman of the House Ways and Means committee, after the committee voted 23-16 on the measure.

Anthem addressed House Republicans in a letter, saying the "time to act is now" to address the faltering individual insurance market.

And surprise, surprise: cutbacks in the ACA will allow the GOP to push ahead with tax cuts for the wealthy and business, because those taxes helped fund subsidies for people enrolled in insurance under the ACA.
