Most assume that Apple will unveil the "iPhone 8" later this year.

"Although overall iPhone 8 builds are expected to start in the July time frame, the ramp of the OLED version is scheduled to start in September, driven by the complexities associated with integrating an OLED (with curved edges) into an Apple iPhone design", Hosseini said. According to one Cowen and Company analyst, the device may also feature facial recognition.

Apple launched the programme in November after it claimed a "very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down" due to a manufacturing issue.

Additional reports have also indicated that the next iPhone will have an OLED display that will be bezels-free, a design feature that is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Aside from these, iPhone 8 is speculated to have its wireless charging feature, which Energous CEO Steve Rizzone has hinted at. While Energous is a long way from successfully delivering on its early ideas, many are linking Apple and Energous, and we could see some Energous tech in the iPhone 8. Of course, that's the cycle every year, and last year's rumors of iPhone 7 eliminating the headphone jack and recycling the 6S's design ended up completely spot on.

According to Forbes, an IP68 rating would allow the upcoming iPhone 8 to be submerged in water as deep as 1.5 meters up to an estimated half hour. In a research note to investors, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said anticipation for the iPhone 8 would mute the iPhone 7 sales during the next couple of quarters. As it is an all-glass front screen, the front camera, Touch ID fingerprint sensor will be embedded into the screen.

In November previous year, Apple announced a battery replacement program for the iPhone 6S, after it emerged that some users were experiencing random shutdowns.

The company is also expected to launch a third higher-end model with an all new display (possibly OLED).
