Trump adviser warns him not to pick Romney for Secretary of State

President-elect Donald Trump met with another possible candidate for secretary of state Monday, and one who is likely to raise some tough questions from the U.S. Senate - former Central Intelligence Agency chief and retired general David Petraeus.

They did not disclose which positions the candidates are interviewing for, but have in the past said Trump speaks with individuals and weighs them for a variety of posts.

"He and his consultants were nothing but bad to Donald Trump for a year", she said.

But amid the rancor, Trump chose Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., an orthopedic surgeon who has been one of Capitol Hill's fiercest critics of President Obama's health care law, to be secretary of health and human services late Monday, a person briefed on the decision confirmed. The same source noted that Lou Barletta was going to be picked for Transportation Secretary.

Trump's decision to consider Romney for the powerful Cabinet post has sparked a public backlash from some of his closest aides and allies. "But I felt compelled to come forward on behalf of the people who were weighing in".

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, the incoming chief of staff in Trump's administration, is also reportedly frustrated with Conway. "I don't think a cost of admission for party unity has to be the secretary of state position".

In nominating Romney, Trump would be signaling his willingness to heal campaign wounds and reach out to traditional Republicans who were deeply skeptical of his experience and temperament.

Scarborough said later on Monday that Conway had responded to the Brzezinski's report, calling it "sexist".

Anti-EU UKIP picks new leader to replace Trump ally Farage
In its official response to the Ukip leadership election, Labour opted to focus on Nuttall's previous comments about the NHS. Mr Nuttall took 9,622 votes, with Ms Evans getting 2,973 votes (19.3%) and Mr Rees-Evans third with 2,775 votes (18.1%).

Newt Gingrich said he could think of "20 other people" who would be a more compatible pick.

At present, however, Trump's transition team does not expect any "imminent" announcements on new appointments, Miller said on Monday.

The spectacle of close aides who speak frequently with Trump in private being so explicit about their personal opinions in public raised the possibility that Conway was acting at Trump's behest.

Giuliani is the preferred choice of Trump's loyalists and grassroots supporters, while Romney is a favorite of establishment conservatives.

Conway on several Sunday morning news shows went after Romney, telling networks that many Trump supporters will feel betrayed should Romney get the job.

"Just met with General Petraeus-was very impressed!"

"There is plenty of evidence that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake".

Top officials in Trump's cabinet have also taken notice of Conway's words, MSNBC reported.
