#7 Wisconsin Badgers Dominate Purdue Boilermakers for Drew Brees' Homecoming, 49-20By Darlene Powers Nov 21, 2016
Wisconsin has the Big Ten's fourth-leading running game with an average of 198.7 rushing yards per game.
Excluding two sacks of quarterback Alex Hornibrook, UW carried the ball 11 times for 29 yards in the opening quarter. As a team they ran for 221 yards against the Boilermakers and Corey Clement added 112 yards to bring his season total to 1,040 yards, second in conference. If Wisconsin runs the table and wins the Big Ten, are they in? "But I am very happy the 1,000 yards came when they did". As teams in the top 10 continue to fall, the pressure and stakes will only rise for Wisconsin moving forward.
"We had a couple that were big plays,"Chryst said". I thought that got the running game going. "He's been giving us a lot".
The Big Ten placed four teams in the top eight of the CFP rankings released Tuesday night, and No. 7 Wisconsin's only losses were 14-7 at No. 3 MI on October 1 and 30-23 in overtime at home to No. 2 Ohio State on October 15. Wisconsin is No. 3 in the conference with 14 interceptions this season and stopped IL on all nine third-down plays last week.
"I've done that before in practice, but they always tell you that you are not going to get one of those in a game", Watt said.
"I just tried to get my hands up any way possible".
"We pride ourselves on defense trying to get a stop for our offense and creating turnovers". "I just took it all in and tried to appreciate it".
Murray beats Wawrinka, advances to semifinals at ATP finals
Wawrinka whether Murray will ensure first place in the group? He said: 'It's going to be really awesome playing at home in Zagreb. Canada's Milos Raonic qualified for the semifinals of the ATP Finals with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Dominic Thiem on Thursday.
"(Kapoi's) had a good week of practice", Chryst said.
Inside linebacker T.J. Edwards loved the play but gave his teammate grief about failing to protect the ball after making the interception. Let me be absolutely clear: the conditions at Ross-Ade Stadium were bad with the wind, but returners Natrell Jamerson (kickoff) and Jazz Peavy (punt) both muffed kicks in the critical third phase of the game. Junior linebacker T.J. Watt engulfed an attempted pass within feet of Boilermaker quarterback David Blough. Blough already has thrown a league-high 16 interceptions and now faces a team that picked off four passes last week.
Purdue interim head coach Gerad Parker watches fron the sideline during the first half of an NCAA co ... And if they win that, they'll make the Playoff. Joe Schopper's third-quarter line drive punt actually was a good thing because Jazz Peavy fumbled, and the Boilermakers recovered.
The first play after Alec Ingold's one-yard touchdown dive gave UW a 7-3 lead, Blough rolled out left and saw Watt bearing down on him. This is Clement's sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season (and fifth in the last six games). It led to Dellinger's second field goal.
WIS-Ingold 1 yard rush (Endicott kick), 8:34. This was the first career interception for Watt. He was 5-of-7 passing for 102 yards and a touchdown.
There were some bright spots today though as Blough and Yancey connected on a lovely 75 yard TD pass. Yancey had a couple long grabs and wound up with 155 yards on the day.
Despite Yancey's six-catch, 155-yard performance, the Badgers secondary held the rest of Purdue's receivers to only nine receptions and 67 yards.
