With Michigan Looming, Buckeyes Focus On Michigan State

New playoff committee rankings will be released Tuesday, but they won't effect who represents the division in Indianapolis.

Which may be enough to put the Lions in the top-4 anyway, they'd have a Buckeyes team that they beat head-to-head and doesn't have a conference championship sitting in front of them.

Those big cheers you heard?

Sure does. As it stands, victories against the Spartans (3-7, 1-6 Big Ten East) in East Lansing on Saturday and at home vs. MI a week from Saturday will likely put the Buckeyes in the CFP, but perhaps not the Big Ten Championship.

Penn State still has to take care of business, however. Then this Thursday to kick off the next week we saw Houston's defense dominate Lamar Jackson and company, with 11 sacks, killing the Cardinals playoff birth chances.

Said Bozeman, "When I do (watch a game), I take it from more of an offensive line versus a defensive line, sort of like that instead of just a fan perspective".

"You can't let praise or criticism get to you", Wooden once said. The Tide remain the only power-five conference team that's undefeated.

Michigan State's Miles Bridges (22) dunks over Mississippi Valley State's Jamal Watson, left, Ronald Strother (2) and Hasaan Buggs (15) during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, in East Lansing, Mich. Last year's contest in Columbus was cold and rainy, which led to OSU running the ball 29 times for 86 yards and MSU running it a whopping 51 times for 203 yards. The Buckeyes could be on the outside looking in if the committee goes strictly for conference champions. The question I've been asked is "Are the Badgers the favorite to win the Big Ten?" and the answer is a resounding "Yes".

In that game, Carroll's team trailed by four but had the ball on New England's one-yard linewith 26 seconds remaining. He rushed for 69 yards, but more importantly, rushed the ball 21 times. "It was a phenomenal win", said Wilson.

Matt Charboneau breaks down Saturday's Michigan State-Ohio State game at Spartan Stadium (noon, ESPN/WJR). Then, it's on to the Playoff for the Playoff, otherwise known as The Game.

Ohio State's defense has allowed 10 TDs, three rushing (fewest in the FBS). While they've been saddled with two losses, they'll get the all important conference champion distinction and claim the third ranked strength of schedule this season, including quality wins over ranked LSU and Nebraska.

Because of the loss to Penn State, and Michigan's loss at Iowa on Saturday, Ohio State could be kept out of the conference title game by the tiebreaker system, even if the Buckeyes beat Michigan State and then Michigan on November 26.

But Michigan is still very much alive, in part because No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Washington lost earlier in the day - at home, no less. It's really a shame the ACC has divisions and they won't get a rematch with Clemson in Orlando.

Ohio State now has the second best odds of winning the championship, after Alabama. The Big Ten also has four teams ranked in the top 10 of the CFP rankings - No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan, No. 7 Wisconsin and No. 8 Penn State - and should finish that way.

Offense: Ohio State - It has far more weapons than Michigan State, which has suffered from spotty quarterback play all season.

“Theres a little bit of human element that comes into the game, especially with them ruining senior night for us last year and ruining the season we were supposed to have last year, ” guard Billy Price acknowledged.

No matter what, the committee doesn't have to worry about Louisville mucking things up.
