Maine chooses to legalize marijuana for recreational use

California and MA voters approved measures allowing recreational marijuana Tuesday, handing the legalization movement a huge victory in the nation's most populous state and giving it a toehold in the densely populated Northeast. Prop 64 has passed in California.

Colorado, which legalized recreational pot in 2014, reported nearly $1 billion in legal pot sales previous year.

The other states that said yes to recreational use were Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada.

It takes time to establish a market after voters approve marijuana.

If "yes" votes prevail across the country, about 75 million people accounting for more than 23 percent of the US population would live in states where recreational pot is legal.

A major question is whether Donald Trump might be that president. Scot Gagnon is one of the organizers of a campaign against the marijuana legalization as a threat to the health and safety for the children.

Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota added to the total number of states that approved medical marijuana, going from 25 to 28.

California, the nation's most populous state, legalized recreational marijuana on Tuesday, creating a semi-legal market potentially worth billions of dollars.

But some supporters of legalizing recreational marijuana in NY said the law in MA may require NY to reconsider its stance.

Other toy items also will be added to the Angel Tree boxes before they are distributed to parents and guardians, Whitaker said. There are nine Salvation Army Corps (facilities) in ME that offer services and programs for children, adults and seniors.

Supporters of legalization say they hope retail marijuana stores will open in 2018.

Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, who backed the measure, called the initiative's passing a "beginning".

If you're counting, that's now 29 states with some form of legal marijuana, giving access to more than 1 in 5 Americans.

The proposal would allow people in the state to cultivate, distribute, and sell marijuana and marijuana products.

Khurram Malik, the cannabis lead at Jacob Capital Management, says the news could also help Canadian marijuana companies secure funding by making investors more comfortable with the sector.

"It's going to be huge", said Mitchem, who pointed out that Colorado's pot industry is worth $1 billion a year but the state has only about a tenth of California's population.

Nevada was one of eight states with measures on the ballot to to legalize marijuana for either for medical or general adult use Tuesday.

"I voted in favor of it".

Even the financial industrys reluctance to do business with marijuana businesses may soon disappear. And the more states that legalize it, the more ridiculous, or as Obama put it this week, "untenable", federal marijuana prohibition becomes.
